PROFESSIONALLY GUIDED SKIN EDUCATION - WITHOUT THE COST OF 1 : 1 CARE.

PODCAST: Is My Acne Hormonal?
By THE HOLISTIC SKIN DETECTIVE
WHY THIS PODCAST EXISTS
Over the past decade, I’ve watched skin patterns change.
Not just in frequency, but in complexity.
People are doing the “right” things:
Eating well
Using clean products
Managing stress
Seeking holistic care
And yet their skin is becoming more reactive, more congested, and harder to stabilise.
Online, the conversation has narrowed:
“It’s hormonal”
“Cut this food”
“Use this product”
In practice, those explanations often don’t hold.
This podcast exists to examine that gap - between what’s being said publicly, and what is being observed on real skin.
WHAT WE EXPLORE HERE
This is not a beauty podcast.
It’s an investigative one.
Each episode explores the deeper drivers influencing skin behaviour, including:
The quiet rise in modern skin imbalances - and what they may be pointing to
Why “hormonal” has become a catch-all label that often obscures root causes
How the body communicates through the skin - and why that language has been lost
The role of environment, chemicals, food systems, stress, and pace of life
What self-responsibility looks like when it’s grounded in understanding, not blame
These conversations sit at the intersection of biology, environment, behaviour, and lived experience.
MY LENS (WHY I APPROACH SKIN THIS WAY)
My work is rooted in lived practice, not theory alone.
I spent over two decades as a hands-on natural skin and spa therapist, working directly with persistent and complex skin conditions.
But clinical work was only the beginning.
To understand why skin patterns were changing, I went deeper - studying and integrating multiple lenses that inform how I now interpret skin:
Mind–body physiology and how unprocessed stress and experience show up through the skin
Herbalism and traditional medicine systems that view skin as an expression of internal balance
Formulation and topical chemistry - and how products interact with compromised systems
Nervous system regulation, conflict resolution, and stress response
Food as information, not just nutrition
Environmental health, land stewardship, and soil regeneration — recognising the parallel between ecological and biological systems
Each lens offered part of the picture.
Together, they revealed something essential:
Skin doesn’t break out in isolation.
It responds to the systems it lives within.
